May 6th through 12th is National Nurses Week. This week has been set aside to recognize the long shifts, hard hours, and emotional roller coaster nurses have to deal with on any typical day. This week of observance starts on May 6th with National Nurses Day, May 8th is National Student Nurses Day and the week of observance ends on May 12th Florence Nightingale’s Birthday. During this week long observance Wednesdays have been set aside to specifically honor school nurses.
As a reminder to all the Hospital Administrators, Doctor’s Offices, Retirement Homes and other Facility please be sure to honor your most precious asset. Speaking from a patient’s point of view, the work nurses do is truly amazing. If you’ve ever spent anytime in a hospital or doctor’s office you know what I mean. Nurses are the true healers in our health care system. They are the voice of the patient to the doctor, they are the one’s who take the time to explain and console patients and family. They are the one patients and families look to for information and truth about their situation. The fly-by visits by the various doctors are almost an annoyance.
